heyy all. is this community still alive?

wondering if anyone else has heard about the upcoming movie 'elvis & anabelle'. a friend told me about it, and i checked out the website (http://www.elvisandanabelle.com), and it looked really really cool. it's about a texas beauty pageant queen who dies, comes back to life, and falls in love with the local outcast dark mortician. a twisted sort of version of that stereotypical teen romance, it appears.

i think it's coming into theatres this fall... anyone else heard anything about it? or also think it looks good?

IF magazine update... [24 Sep 2003|10:59pm]

I dont know who knows this or how well known it is it but beware of King Kong

From The Sydney Morning Herald: Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson has
reportedly won a $30million deal to remake King Kong and wants Australian
actor Naomi Watts as his star. Daily Variety said Universal Studios will pay
Jackson, acclaimed for the Rings trilogy, the last instalment of which is
due out in December, $US20 million against 20 per cent of the movie's gross
ticket receipts. The daily said that news of the almost unprecedented
pay-cheque deal has stunned Hollywood studio chiefs, who are reportedly
fuming about the deal which they fear could set a precedent for other top

Ritter Dies [12 Sep 2003|09:16am]

[ mood | mourning ]

John Ritter said he wasn't feeling to well yesterday at work, on the set of "Eight Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter".

Today, his heart stopped. Most people will know Ritter from his role of Jack Tripper, the male roommate on "Three's Company." Read the full article here.

This morning, Johnny Cash also passed away. Some people are waiting for a third celebrity to pass away today, citing the superstition that bad things come in three's.

Baba's Box Office is Back! [08 Sep 2003|10:14am]

[ mood | amused ]

All hail alliteration!

Sorry for the gap in posts, folks, but the last few weeks of movies has really been a big pile of suck, and talking about how much money they made didn't really interest me too much. (Whoo-hoo! Run-on sentences!)

This past weekend was really fascinating, though.
Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star was the number 1 film in the country this past weekend...

...with a whopping SEVEN MILLION DOLLARS.

7 mil? This officially makes Dickie Roberts the first film to both bomb and conquer the box office simultaneously.
(You know, to be honest, I didn't even know Dickie Roberts had opened this weekend. Seriously. the ads are on non-stop, but they were clearly unsuccessful.)

The only other new movie, The Order, opened in a disappointing 6th place with $4.3 million.

Salvation, however, is on the horizon. Next week sees the opening of a triple threat of movies that officially open the Fall quality movie season:

Matchstick Men, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, and (in certain cities) Lost in Translation.

Movies can be good, kids. Don't be afraid to go see one.

Has anyone heard anything new about the production of Quentin Tarantino's new movie Kill Bill? Are the rumors true that the movie will have to be divided into two movies?

UPDATE! [06 Sep 2003|07:33pm]
[ mood | amused ]

ANGEL (TV): AP Wire reports that Sarah Michelle Gellar will guest star as Buffy on two episodes next year.

THE AVIATOR: A biopic on Howard Hughes starring Leo DiCaprio has some piccies up for snagging. Also featured are some shots of Gwen Stefani as Jean Harlow... Click for pics.

BATMAN:: Its expected to begin production in Feb 2004 with either Christian Bale, Josh Hartnett or Cillian Murphy from 28 Days Later. Murphy seems the most likely to get it as Hartnett doesn't seem to be interested and Bale is stalling because if he takes on Batman he knows he can kiss goodbye to a future chance at the Bond role. (OMFG! If Cillian gets it I AM SO THERE... he could SAVE this trainwreck.)

FIREFLY: The Hollywood Reporter indicates the film version of the cancelled Joss Whedon series will go into production in first-quarter 2004.

RIDDICK: IGN Filmforce reports that the new film will not be the first of two but in fact a trilogy. (This was widely rumored before but not confirmed)

STARWARS: Some major spoilers out about Anakin's "injuries" for the third movie... FOR MAJOR SPOILERS - CLICK HERECollapse )

THE SINGING DETECTIVE: Movie City News has been slowly but surely building up big and they recently scored around a dozen new shots from this Robert Downey Jr. / Mel Gibson film remake of the quirky 80's BBC mini-series about those most romantically musical of subjects - exema and detective noir. Trailerville [23 Aug 2003|06:45pm]
[ mood | impressed ]

RECOMMENDED TRAILERS: Instead of posting every dinky trailer that hits the web, I'm just going to do the dirty work and post the clips worth a shit. So, I present to you this week's Disco Picsof web trailers! So out of this week's bunch, what ranks high on the OMFG-THAT-IS-SO-COOL-METER...?

01. ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO MAN! MAN!! This looks so cool I think I've got to go clean myself up... WOW. The third movie in the Desperado series! In addition to Antonio Banderas and Selma Hayek, are Johnny Depp and Enrique Igalisas. This movie hasn't been hyped much YET as far as ad time on television... but it looks to be a SERIOUS action flick.

02. TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE .....holy...... shit....... *is reeeeeally terrified* This looks like a SOLID remake. Beyond solid. This looks positively freaky. The art direction of the trailer was enough for me to be interested. Let's hope the art direction of the film is as creepy!

03. SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE: A comedy starring Jack Nicholson, Diane Keaton and Keanu Reeves. This is in the same niche as Jacks As Good As It Gets, which was a brilliant quirky comedy. I will be interested to see this one-- it looks like fun!

04. SCHOOL OF ROCK Jack Black's latest comedy. Looks to be entertaining, unfortunately I can't shake the feeling that there's going to be a message at the end... something sappy. Oh well. Worth a shot!
